Laser Vessel Reduction
Laser Vessel Reduction
Also known as a Blood Vessel Reduction
What is Laser Vessel Reduction?
In laser vessel reduction, the laser generates a pulse of intense, concentrated light that is directed through a small, cooled hand piece, which is placed over the area to be treated. This laser energy passes through the skin to the blood vessels that you wish to have eliminated. The energy is absorbed by pigment in the blood, causing selective damage to the lining of the targeted blood vessel, without damaging the surrounding tissues and skin. The blood vessel (spider veins) dies off and is reabsorbed by the body. The flow of blood is re-directed away from the surface of the skin, back down beneath the skin where it normally lays. Patients should resume routine activities immediately. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment.
What to expect during the Laser Vessel Reduction procedure?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deeply into skin tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat to the targeted blood vessels. Dynamic Cooling Device technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.
Treatment will take place at Deify with one of our highly trained laser specialists. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your specialist will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small hand piece. Each laser pulse may be preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area being treated.
What to expect during the recovery for Laser Vessel Reduction?
A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours. After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying Sun block (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers.
Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (a laser bruise) in the treated area—these usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects are rare. Be sure to discuss potential side effects with your specialist.
