Breast reduction surgery was recently in the headlines after Ariel Winter, famous for her role on the hit show “Modern Family,” opened up about getting the procedure. ABC 7 Los Angeles takes a look at this in a recent article titled “‘Modern Family’ Actress Ariel Winter Opens Up About Breast-Reduction Surgery.”
According to the author of the article, “‘Modern Family’ actress Ariel Winter, 17, is opening up about her recent breast reduction surgery and revealing the physical and emotional pain she was dealing with. She told Glamour magazine that she went from a size 32F to a 34D after surgery when she finished wrapping season seven of the hit ABC show. ‘It’s something that I did to better my life and better my health, and I think that can benefit a lot of young girls. I have felt happier with myself than I ever have,’ Winters told Glamour. Winter is best known as the nerdy, yet lovable middle sister, Alex Dunphy, on the show, but she says misogynistic attention lead to her decision to go under the knife. ‘The Internet bullies are awful. I could post a photo where I feel good, and 500 people will comment about how fat I am and that I am disgusting,’ she told Glamour. ‘It made me feel really uncomfortable because as women in the industry, we are totally over sexualized and treated like objects.’”
Stuff also examines breast reduction in a recent article titled “Why I had a breast reduction.” Jo Hartley of Stuff writes, “My breasts were reduced from a 34F to a 34D, and my recovery took about six weeks. My breasts turned every colour of the rainbow, painkillers became my best friend, and I lay in recovery wondering if I’d made the right choice. But when the bandaging was removed and I saw my breasts, I knew I’d never look back. For the first time in years I was able to wear nice bras, swimsuits and tight tops. I was able to walk with my head held high, jog without pain and go shopping in shops for ‘young’ people. I was able to have a conversation where men held eye contact, and I was able to feel like people judged me for me and not just my breasts. Like Ariel Winter has described, I felt like a new person after surgery. It was the best thing I ever did and marked a turning point in my life when I got a load off my chest – in more ways than one.”
