Liposuction

Liposuction in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland, and Walnut Creek

Every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans opt for the popular plastic surgery procedure, liposuction to enhance their appearance and reduce small areas of fat that fail to respond to diet and exercise. Lipoplasty, as it is also known, is a popular procedure used to eliminate these pockets of fat in the abdomen, hips, arms, thighs and buttocks.

Liposuction: Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area California

Liposuction is typically performed as an outpatient procedure at one of the Oakland and San Francisco Bay Area hospitals. The procedure is performed while the patient is under local or general anesthesia and takes between forty five minutes to two hours, depending on the number of areas to be treated.

Overnight recovery is typically expected and patients can usually return to work and normal activities the day following their procedure.

Types of Liposuction

Rapid advances in liposuction technology have expanded the procedure limits and liposuction can now be performed on the ankles, face, knees and waist for removal of small amounts of fat that surround these areas.

Laser Assisted Liposuction

SMART Lipo, named for the manufacturer, is one of the newest technology advances, which utilizes a laser to rupture the cells of fat and remove them through a cannula.

Tumescent Liposuction Technique

This technique requires the injection of anesthetic fluids into the areas of fat, which causes the fatty tissue to swell, making the fat removal easier. An advantage of this technique is that it evokes less bruising and blood loss during the procedure. The Super-wet technique is a variation of the Tumescent procedure only reducing the amount of liquid injected.

Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty

During ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty, fat cells are liquefied using ultrasound waves making them easier to remove. Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty is on the cutting edge of the latest liposuction technology.

Liposuction Risks

As with all medical procedures, there are certain risks that may be associated with the liposuction procedure. Failure to follow all of the pre and post operative instructions could lead to hematoma, infection, pulmonary emboli, scarring and numbness. Your risks are greatly reduced when you select a board certified plastic surgeon and follow the instructions that Dr. Moulton-Barrett provides for you.
