Brachioplasty, commonly referred to as an upper arm lift, is a cosmetic surgery that creates a firmer and toned appearance to unsightly sagging upper arm skin. Dr. Rex Moulton-Barrett has helped many people in the Oakland, Brentwood, Alameda, and Walnut Creek areas reduce underarm fat with brachioplasty surgery.
A brachioplasty procedure can tone, contour, reshape and enhance the appearance of arms that have lost their youthful shape and firmness.

Prime candidates for the arm lift are those who have lost their natural arm shape, perhaps due to age or excessive weight loss, and have realistic expectations about the arm lift procedure and the desired results. Unfortunately, not all people should consider this procedure. Those who have a history of armpit infections, excess sweat production or mastectomy patients may not be good candidates for brachioplasty cosmetic surgery.
Brachioplasty cosmetic surgery produces long-lasting results and dramatic improvement in the appearance of the upper arms. For certain patients, brachioplasty, combined with liposuction, is the perfect combination of procedure choices for a complete cosmetic reconstruction of the upper arm to remove excess fat and contour the area. The results are phenomenal, making this an extremely popular cosmetic procedure.
Before Brachioplasty Surgery
Brachioplasty surgery is usually an outpatient procedure that is typically performed under a general or local anesthetic and the operation only takes around two hours to complete.
The arm lift reconstructive surgery requires several small x-shaped incisions in the tissue under the arm to remove excess fat and tissue from the area. The skin is then stretched and contoured into place to deliver a pleasing aesthetic result. Immediately after the surgery, the patient may be fitted with a compression garment that will work to reduce swelling and promote tightening and healing in the surgical area.
After Brachioplasty Surgery
Recovery for the upper arm lift ranges from two to five weeks. Any stitches from the surgery are typically removed within one to two weeks and patients can expect to resume normal activities within three weeks.
